What should we wear to our session?

You will want to choose clothes that coordinate well, but not necessarily match. What you wear can make a big difference in how the photos turn out so it's worth the extra effort! Once the outfits are chosen, lay them all out together. If something jumps out at you, switch out that outfit. You don't want the clothes to overpower the images or draw too much attention to just one person. I suggest choosing a palette of about 3 colors for everyone to choose from and have a couple of colors overlap. For example, you might wear a black sweater with a red scarf tied around your neck while another family member has on a red sweater. Cream generally photographs better than white, if you want to go with a light neutral color. You are also welcome to bring several different outfits. If your child has a favorite toy or blanket, feel free to bring it along to the shoot. It often makes them happier and more comfortable and we may even get some fun shots with that special object.

When is the best time for a photo shoot?

The vast majority of my family shoots are done on the weekends and evenings, depending on the time of year. The best times to shoot are an hour or so after sunrise and one to two hours prior to sunset. This ensures the best possible outdoor lighting and the timing varies throughout the year. Shooting during the middle of the day generally creates harsh and unflatteringly shadows. As we get closer to the end of October/early November, afternoon shoots are preferrable as the morning chill often wears off by the afternoon and will create a much more enjoyable experience if the temps are a bit warmer.

Is there a limit on how many photos will be taken?

No, there is no limit on the number of shots I take. However, in the end, you will see anywhere from 25 - 35 final, edited images. The best of the best images I captured will be chosen for your final gallery.

Can I bring my dog to the shoot?

Yes, with a few caveats. If your dog is going to join us for 5-10 minutes so that we can get a few family shots including your furry family members, that is fine and there is no charge for that. However, if you would like for your dog(s) to join us for the entire shoot, there is an addtiional $40 per dog, due the unique challenges presented by our furry friends.

What is your style of shooting?

I like to capture people as they are. No two sessions should look the same as no two families are the same. Props are rarely used and generally only with smaller children in order to get them comfortable and moving around. My goal is to capture the true personalities of the people I'm photographing. Think of it as spending some fun family time together, only there happens to be a photographer following you everywhere you go. I will give some guidance and direction, especially for group shots. But, I enjoy seeing personalities emerge and photographing those moments as they happen.

How will I see my images?

Once your images are ready for viewing, I will send you an email with a password to your gallery which will be housed on my website. You can share that link and password with anyone you choose. If you would like to have an in person consultation to choose your images, please let me know.

How long will my images be available for viewing?

Your gallery will be available for viewing online for 10 days, during which time you can place your order. After that time the images will be archived. There will be an additional $25 fee for 5 day gallery extension. The extension begins on the day after the first expiration day.

How do I order prints?

You can order prints directly from your gallery. I will send you an email with detailed instructions on how to place your order via the website. If you would like to do an in person ordering session, please let me know.

What if I have to cancel my shoot?

Your session fee is non-refundable. However, should you need to reschedule due to an unforseen cirumstance, your session fee will be applied to the new date. The same applies for shoots that need to be rescheduled due to inclement weather, which does happen from time to time.

What is the process for paying for the prints?

All print orders must be paid in full upon ordering and no credits or refunds will be given on prints due to their custom nature. You can send a check or pay via credit card or PayPal through my website. If you are not comfortable paying through PayPal, you can contact me ahead of time so that we can make other arrangements.

Can I buy a disk of the edited images?

Yes. A disk of the full session is $500.00. A release detailing how these digital files my be used will accompany the disk.

What else do I need to know?

I will send you an image release prior to your session for each person to read and sign. You can bring the signed copy to the photo shoot. I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have.
